As you will have noticed the senior school playground has been overtaken by temporary classrooms. There are now three onsite. The arrival of the classrooms is in preparation for the start of the earthquake strengthening works that are required for C block (known as the middle block) and the hall. What this means for three classes is, they will be spending term one in one of these three temporary classrooms.
Details about which classes are affected have been communicated with the end of year reports. Having the construction work on site during term one is going to be disruptive, but be assured we will be working hard with the contractor to minimise disruption to the school and our neighbours.
The Ministry of Education, TBIG (project managers) and the School have approved the final design for the works and the main contractor is in the process of being appointed. We are nearly there, and all going to plan the main contractor will be in place before Christmas. The building works will start during the holidays (as early as 5 January). The anticipated completion date is towards the end of term one. Please be careful if you are in school grounds during this time, as the contractor will be moving a lot of equipment onsite.
As well as the main earthquake works the Board of Trustees has committed additional monies to improve the insulation, heating and lighting in block C, replace some windows, refurbish the middle toilet block as well as external painting on some buildings. The school will look fabulous when finished, and will set us up for a great centenary year in 2015!
We will continue to keep you updated via Facebook over the holidays, and in the newsletter in 2015. Thanks for your ongoing support and patience.
Merry Christmas and may you all have a fun-filled relaxing and safe holiday.
